The Ag Communications Information Technology Section is comprised of the Extension IT Support Group, College Systems Support Group, Academic Facilities IT Support and Desktop Support Services for Ag Communications and other College Personnel. The 14 members of the Section are located on Campus(252 C.E. Barnhart Bldg, Scovell Hall) and at three off Campus locations(UKREC-Princeton, Robinson Center-Quicksand, and Boyd County CES). The College Helpdesk is also part of the IT Section, offering assistance with IT related problems/questions via the Phone, email, and by remote assistance.

This includes file/print/web services and other specialized systems. Web servers maintained by the section average over 10 million hits per month. To assist the faculty and staff of the College the section also acts as a contact with UKITS support units. College Helpdesk

The College of Agriculture Food and Environment Helpdesk is available Monday thru Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.(Eastern time) to answer any computer or service related questions. The Helpdesk assists both on and off campus faculty and staff in answering questions regarding network, security, smart classrooms, technology, and videoconferencing issues or inquiries. The Information Technology Trainer position is here to support Cooperative Extension Service faculty and staff in meeting the ever growing demand of using existing and new technologies to reach their clientele. The Technical Trainer plans, develops and implements trainings on request and as needed to provide faculty and staff the tools essential to meeting the internal and external communication goals of the College of Agriculture Food and Environment, Ag. Experiment Station, and statewide public outreach mission of the Cooperative Extension Service.

Network Servers and Network Support

Twenty-two Departments/Units, The School of Human Environmental Sciences and Extension staff at over 120 remote sites rely on servers managed by the computing section. This includes file/print/web services as well as remote access and other specialized systems (40+ servers). The file and print servers maintained by the section service over 1,600 users in the College and offer nightly backed up storage space available to all College employees.

Web servers maintained by the section average over 10 million hits per month. To assist the faculty and staff of the College the section also acts as a contact with UKIT support units. College Computer Classroom and Smart Classrooms

Insuring that the College's computer classroom/training lab(room 246 C.E.Barnhart Building) and College smart classrooms are kept in working order is the responsibility of the IT section. Smart classroom locations include Ag Sciences North (rooms A6, A7, N10, N12, S221, N320, S227), Garrigus Building (rooms 108, 109), Erickson Hall (rooms 203, 304, 308) and C.E. Barnhart (room 227). Each smart classroom houses a computer, projection system and document cameras. Responsibilities also include training instructors in the use of the equipment as well as keeping all the hardware operational. Assistance with problems in the computer classroom/lab or smart classrooms can be obtained by contacting the Helpdesk at (859) 257-3335 ext 1.

Insuring that the College's Information Technology resources are secure is critical to successfully performing the mission of the College. The IT Section ensures that College systems and resources are secure. Staff are always available to assist with an IT security related issue or question. Video Conferencing

The section maintains a video conferencing system in Room 249 C.E. Barnhart Building. Numerous other sites are located around the state and are maintained with assistance from District IT Support Staff. With the use of the campus multi-conferencing unit these sites can conference with each other as well as sites throughout the world. Web Conferencing

The University of Kentucky offers two options for web conferencing: Zoom and Skype for Business. The IT Section offers support for both technologies and the 249 Barnhart Conference room can be used to host meetings using either Zoom or Skype for Business.
