Content Types
Content types refer to the different types of pages you can add to your site. By default, there are 4 content types configured on your site, described below:
Landing pages are dynamic pages that allow you to build the page using blocks and offer multiple branded background colors. Blocks can be arranged in any layout you desire.
Adding a New Landing Page
Follow the steps below to create a new landing page:
- Click Content in the admin toolbar.
- Click the + Add Content button.
- Click Landing Page.
- Enter the title for your new landing page.
- Indicate whether you want the page title to be visible. By default, page titles are hidden.
- Optional: If you want to add this new page to your main menu, click the Menu Settings tab in the sidebar, then select the menu placement.
- Click the Save button.
Adding Content to a Landing Page
After you create a landing page per the steps above, you need to add content to the page. Follow the steps below for adding content to a landing page:
- Click Content in the admin toolbar.
- Click the name of the landing page you want to edit.
- Click the Layout tab.
- Click the + Add section button in the area you want to place the block.
- Choose a layout for the new section.
- Select a style for the new section, then click the Add section button.
- In your new section, click the + Add block button.
- Click the + Create custom block button.
- Select the block type corresponding to the type of content you want to add.
- Complete all required fields, then complete optional fields as needed.
- Click the Add block button.
- Click the Save layout button at the top of the page.
Editing a Preexisting Landing Page
Follow the steps below for editing a preexisting landing page:
- Click Content in the admin toolbar.
- Click the name of the landing page you want to edit.
- Click the Layout tab.
- Modify the block configuration for any items that need editing. If necessary, add, remove or change preexisting sections or blocks to meet your needs.
- After your changes are made, click the Save layout button at the top of the page.
Basic pages are used to add content in a singular layout using a formatted text editor. By default, content added to a basic page will span the entire content-width of your site. If the basic page has subpages (in the site's menu structure), the submenu will appear on the right side of the page. To make basic pages more visually appealing, you can add a featured header with a full-width background image.
Adding a New Basic Page
Follow the steps below to create a new basic page:
- Click Content from the admin toolbar.
- Click the + Add content button.
- Click Basic Page.
- Enter a title for your new basic page.
- Indicate whether you want the page title to be visible. By default, page titles are visible on basic pages.
- Enter the content you want to add in the formatted text editor (body).
- Optional: If you want to add this new page to your main menu, click the Menu Settings tab in the sidebar, then select the menu placement.
- Click the Save button.
Editing a Preexisting Basic Page
Follow the steps below for editing a preexisting basic page:
- Click Content in the admin toolbar.
- Click the name of the basic page you want to edit.
- Modify the content in the formatted text editor as needed.
- After your changes are made, click the Save button.
Person pages are used to add new people to your site's person (e.g., faculty, staff, graduate students) directory. By default, your site has an empty directory page in place (/directory).
Adding a New Person
Follow the steps below for adding a new person:
- Click Content from the admin toolbar.
- Click the + Add content button.
- Click Person.
- Enter the required and any additional information for the person you want to add. The following items are required:
- First Name
- Last Name
- Email Address
- Job Title
- Position Type
- Click the Save button.
Note: By default, there are no job titles added to your site. You will need to load relevant job titles for your department, unit or program as terms on the Job Title taxonomy before you can add content to the person content type.
Editing a Preexisting Person
Follow the steps below for editing a preexisting person:
- Click Content in the admin toolbar.
- Click the name of the person you want to edit.
- Modify the fields as needed.
- After your changes are made, click the Save button.
Event pages are used to add new events to your site's upcoming events page. By default, your site has an empty upcoming events page in place (/events).
Adding a New Event
Follow the steps below to create a new event:
- Click Content from the admin toolbar.
- Click the + Add content button.
- Click Event.
- Enter the required and any additional information for the event you want to add. The following items are required:
- Event Title
- Event Description
- Event Date and Time
- Click the Save button.
Note: By default, there are no event categories added to your site. You will need to load event categories for your department, unit or program as terms on the Event Category taxonomy if you want to categorize your events. More information will be provided about taxonomies.
Editing a Preexisting Event
Follow the steps below for editing a preexisting event:
- Click Content in the admin toolbar.
- Click the name of the event you want to edit.
- Modify the fields as needed.
- After your changes are made, click the Save button.
After learning more about the available content types, you should be comfortable determining which content type(s) will work best for adding certain pieces of content to your site.
Block Types
Blocks are used to add content to landing pages. There are currently over 15 block types configured by default on your site. Those block types are listed below.

The accordion set block type allows for addition of multiple stacked, expandable text regions. Example use cases of this block type include frequently asked questions and course offerings. This block type can be added to one- and two-column sections.
The alert block type allows for the addition of a static or closeable alert. Example use cases: high-priority messages placed atop main content on your homepage. The alert will only be rendered on the page this block type is added to (and is primarily recommended for homepage use). This block type can be added to one-column sections.
The embedded tweet block type allows for the addition of a tweet card that allows interaction with a tweet directly from your site. This block type can be added to two- and three-column sections.
The formatted text block type is your standard block type for adding text. Using this text editor, you can also add inline images, videos (remote and local), audio, documents and tables. This block type can be added to one-, two-, three- and four-column sections.
The text card block type allows for the addition of a colored card. This card has a configurable header, description and call-to-action button. This block type can be added to two-, three- and four-column sections.
The image card block type allows for the addition of a colored card with a background image. This card has a configurable header, description and call-to-action button. This block type can be added to two-, three- and four-column sections.
The image carousel block type allows for the addition of multiple images with the option to pane through said images. Each image can have its own header and description. The block type can be added to one-column sections.
The links block type allows for the addition of a list of links styled differently than standard links on your site. This block type can be configured with one of two styles: stacked (hover effect) or inline (tag effect). This block type can be added to two- and three-column sections.
The quote block type allows for the addition of a quote with attribution and sub-attribution text. This block type can be added to one-, two- and three-column sections.
The section heading text block type allows for the addition of heading text (h2 size) for the differing sections of a landing page. This block type offers multiple style options. This block type can be added to one-, two-, three- and four-column sections.
The separator block type allows for the addition of a divider. This block type offers multiple style options (invisible, branded and plain). This block type can be added to one-, two-, three- and four-column sections.
The social icons block type allows for the addition of social media icons. This block type can be added to one-, two-, three- and four-column sections.
The hero image block type allows you to add a large image with optional overlaid content (a header, description and call-to-action button). This block type can be added to one-column sections and looks best when the section is full-width.
The split hero image block type allows for the addition of a large image with an overlaid content set (header, description and call-to-action button). This block type is similar to the hero image block type but is more geometric and playful. This block type can be added to a one-column section and looks best when the section is full-width.
The hero video block type allows you to add a large autoplaying video with optional overlaid content (a header, description and call-to-action button). This block type can be added to one-column sections and looks best when the section is full-width.
The statistic block type allows for the addition of a statistic with descriptive text and subtext. This block type can be added to two-, three- and four-column sections.
The tabbed block block type allows for the addition of multiple formatted text areas that can be panned through using tabs. This block type can be added to one-column sections.
