Justification

The Marketing and Agricultural Communications Web Services Section and Martin-Gatton CAFE IT team maintain hundreds of websites for our college. A website’s owner/administrator is responsible for ensuring their website is continuously maintained. When websites are not updated periodically, the content becomes outdated and of little to no use to users. An outdated website affects the college’s reputation for providing timely and accurate information and resources. Continuing to host sites that are no longer maintained is an inefficient use of our teams’ time and resources.

Standards

To avoid these issues, the Web Services Section will delete sites that are no longer necessary or are not being maintained by their owners/administrators.

For any site that has not been logged into for a period of 12 months, the Web Services Section will contact the site owner/administrator and/or the last user to log in and request a reason to keep the site. If no appropriate reason is provided, or no answer is received within two weeks, the site will be deleted.

For any site that is specific to an event or program that has ended, the Web Services Section will contact the site owner/administrator and/or the last user to log in and request a reason to keep the site. If no appropriate reason is provided, or no answer is received within two weeks, the site will be deleted.

It is the responsibility of the site owner/administrator to store or archive any needed content in a location other than the public website.

A site can be removed at any time per the Martin-Gatton CAFE Web Services Section, Marketing and Agricultural Communications Director or the Dean of Martin-Gatton CAFE.
